I first adopted a personal mantra in 2024 and it helped me so much that I’ve decided to make this a yearly thing.
I’ll still continue to utilise my 2024 mantra – which is My Health First, however I also want to consider a new mantra that aligns with exactly where I am at the moment with my health and life.
So, what’s a personal mantra?
When done right, it’s so much more than just a few motivational words. I consider a personal mantra to be a powerful statement that helps to guide my actions and decisions.
For me, I utilise my Personal Mantra alongside my Word of the Year as a reminder about what’s important and to align with my values and goals. It’s a nice way to ensure that I’m living in a way that resonates with what truly matters to me.
Why is a mantra different than a word of the year?
A word of the year is a broad theme that sets the tone for your year, while a mantra is a focused, actionable statement. A mantra ties directly to your values and daily actions, acting as a practical guide to stay aligned with your goals.
Why is a mantra different than an affirmation?
An affirmation boosts self-belief and shifts your mindset, often countering negativity. A mantra goes beyond mindset, serving as a reminder to act intentionally and live by your values, keeping you grounded in purposeful action.
Why set a mantra for the year?
Mantras have the incredible ability to re-energise and revitalise us when our energy wanes. They help us navigate challenges, build resilience, and resist behaviours that don’t serve us.
So, how can you create your very own guiding mantra for 2025?
Step 1: Reflection and Self Awareness
You may like to ask yourself these questions:
- What am I missing?
- What do I need in this era of my life?
- How can I align with my values and top priorities?
- What do I want to achieve this year?
- Do I want to align my 2025 Mantra with my Word of the Year?
Step 2: Brainstorm
Spend some time jotting down your ideas – there is no right or wrong with this. Note anything that comes to mind. I spent quite a bit of time doing this myself – I started thinking about how I wanted to feel.
Step 3: Begin with “I” or “My” for Maximum Impact
Your mantra is personal, so start it with “I” or “My” to amplify its power. Feel free to break this rule if the right words demand it.
Step 4: Keep It Short and Memorable
A mantra is most effective when it’s easily remembered and repeated. Keep it concise, allowing it to echo in your mind throughout the day.
Step 5: Be Specific
Focus your mantra on a particular issue or challenge you’re facing right now. Specificity gives your mantra a clear direction and purpose.
Step 6: Infuse Positivity
Opt for positive words to structure your mantra. Instead of saying, “I won’t let health challenges hold me back,” shift to a positive expression like, “I prioritise my well-being for a vibrant midlife”
Step 7: Create Your Mantra for the Year
Your mantra should be powerful for you. I looked up some mantra ideas online but ultimately, I developed one that simply expressed exactly how I want to live in 2024.
My Personal Mantra for 2025: I Choose Energy and Joy
ENERGY is my 2025 Word of the Year and I wanted to include this in some way in my Mantra.
I brainstormed loads of ideas and shortlisted the following:
My Energy Comes from Balance and Joy
I Radiate Energy and Authenticity
I Choose Energy and Joy
I Radiate Energy Inside and Out
From this shortlist, I thought a lot about what resonated most and what I could imagine myself using daily for maximum impact. I decided on ‘I Choose Energy and Joy’ – because for me, it’s really important to remind myself that my health and happiness is up to me. And, I have to consciously take action and choose to create habits and a lifestyle to bring me more energy and joy.
My mantra will work alongside my Word of the Year and help to influence my decisions and remind me what’s important throughout the year, particularly when I’m faced with all the competing priorities that come up. I’ll also include my mantra in my 2025 Health & Wellness Vision Board.
